Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory
Based in the eastern deciduous forest of the Blue Ridge Physiographic Province of the southern Appalachian Mountains, the Coweeta LTER program was established in 1980 and is the centerpiece of a long-term cooperation between the University of Georgia and the USDA Forest Service Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, and a member of the LTER Network, the research program now represents one of the longest continuous environmental studies of any North American landscape. Our current research on the ecological and socioeconomic dimensions of past, present and future land use in the southern Appalachian Mountains contributes directly to the LTER Goals for the Decade of Synthesis.
